Aaron Sibanda, representing the party in ward 25, was allegedly attacked at Lubanda business centre under unclear circumstances,

“Our council candidate for ward 25 in Binga was attacked on Friday,” MDC spokesperson Nhlanhla Dube said. “He was seriously injured in the attack and was taken to a clinic where he had stitches on the head and above the eye.”

He said Sibanda had since been discharged from the clinic.

“This incident is an indicator that while the political reality takes charge and when expectations call for peace and stability, some elements engage in such violence,” Dube added.

“Violence is a war of the dull and weak. Why don’t they allow modernity to take charge? You cannot intimidate and force people to rally behind you through violence.”

Matabeleland North police spokesperson Inspector Sipiwe Makonese and Zanu PF’s Matabeleland North chairman Richard Moyo were not reachable for comment by the time of going to print.
