Mfazo Mpunzi, who lost to Mark Harold Ncube in the MDC-T primary elections for the Member of Parliament for Bubi Constituency, will release an album titled Tongai VaTsvangirai on Friday.

Mpunzi, who classified his music as protest music, confirmed to Southern Eye Lifestyle his album will be released in time for the July 31 harmonised elections.

“I will release my album this week ahead of the elections,” Mpunzi said.

The 10-track album includes songs like Taneta, a prayer for the country, and Sihawukele. The title track urges Zimbabweans to rally behind Tsvangirai.

“The album is about urging members of the party to unite so that we finish the work of liberating Zimbabweans from Zanu PF. If we are divided, our enemy will destroy us easily.

“I guarantee that the public and especially MDC-T followers will enjoy the album as it is theirs to enjoy and learn from as we go into election.” Unlike other candidates who lost in the primaries and have rebelled against MDC-T, Mpunzi has remained in the party.

“This album will silence rumours that after losing to Harold Ncube I have rebelled and no longer support the party. I will always be part of MDC-T. I lost in a democratic process.

I respect the outcome and I have gone on to support Ncube as we belong to the same party. Those who supported me in the primaries should now shift their support to Ncube.”

Mpunzi added that he will always be a protest singer and a watchdog, even after MDC-T win the elections. “I will tackle social injustice through music,” he said.

Mpunzi started protest music in 2006. The former school teacher, forced to resign by education authorities due to his political activities, has worked with Patience Takaona and Dread Reckless who composed Nhare Mbozha  for MDC-T.
