SOUTH African musician Freddie Gwala yesterday predicted victory for Umguza MP Obert Mpofu and his Zanu PF party when the country conducts elections on Wednesday.

At a party hosted by Mpofu in Nyamandlovu, Gwala, performing alongside Platform One, chanted Zanu PF slogans and urged Umguza villagers to vote for the Mines minister.

“I have a message from the people of South Africa and they wish you peace as you go for elections.

“I have already seen that there is peace prevailing in the party,” Gwala told almost 10 000 Zanu PF supporters attending the party.

“When you go for elections, put an X on the person that you love so that your voice can be heard.

“Put an X on Mpofu and Zanu PF and do not be the one complaining when the elections pass and you did not vote.”

Gwala said Zimbabweans should ensure that they governed themselves and controlled their resources.

“No one will control you or your resources. They (whites) have tried that before, but that is in the past and let us rule and benefit from the land left to us by our forefathers,” he said.

Platform One penned a song for Mpofu that they performed at the party saying the minister will bring development not only to Umguza but the whole of Zimbabwe.

Mpofu urged the villagers to go in their numbers to vote for Zanu PF.

“I do not have much to say, but to tell you that we are in the moment of reckoning,” he said.

“When you go for elections on Wednesday, rally behind your party. First put an X on President Robert Mugabe and X for Obert Mpofu and 19 councillors in the constituency.”

Gwala and Platform One on Saturday performed alongside 25 local artistes at Stanley Square in Makokoba, as part of Zanu PF candidate Tshinga Dube’s campaign.
