A bevy of 15 models drawn from Dete, Hwange and Victoria Falls will vie for top accolades in the beauty contest.

Bhekimpilo Moyo, one of the organisers of Miss Winter, said the beauty contest was aimed at developing models from Matabeleland North.

Moyo said models from this part of the region have largely been sidelined over the past years in big contests.

“We are doing this so that models from Matabeleland North can get used to such events so that when they decide to take part in the country’s big pageants they would be confident enough,” he said.

“In Matabeleland North, we have a lot of talent lying idle and we are calling upon different stakeholders in this industry to come over and scout for talent because it has become monotonous that we are always having winners from Harare and Bulawayo, in events such as Miss Zimbabwe. Models from this part of the country are not recognised,” he said.

Different prizes ranging from cash and bumpers will be given to winning models. Winners of the competition will be linked to professional agencies so that they could be nurtured.
