Matabeleland South Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Philisani Ndebele on Monday confirmed the incident that occurred between July 23 and 28 at Matshenguwo homestead under kraal head Maseko, in Plumtree.

“The now deceased, identified as Lazarus Ncube (41), was earlier involved in a scuffle on July 23 when he was assaulted over a debt of R5, which he owed the accused person, Sikhumbuzo Magure Ndlovu, who resides at the same village,” he said. Ndebele said during the scuffle, Ncube was assaulted by an unidentified object on the left ear and side of his head.

“After the incident, Ncube complained of severe head pains for days up to the time he was discovered dead on July 28 in his bedroom hut,” he said.

Ndebele said investigations were in progress. He advised the public to desist from resorting to violence when they had problems, as that led to unnecessary deaths. He said they should instead seek help from professionals.
