Much to the delight of his fans, Sulu as he is affectionately known, took fans down memory lane as he played songs composed by his late father, among them Dzandipedza Mafuta, Nguva Yakaoma, Gomba  and KuState House Kure.

Despite some problems of crowd disturbance, Sulu and his Orchestra Dendera band could not be deterred from giving fans value for their money. Sulu also belted out his own hits which kept fans up on their feet.

Club Vegas 999 erupted into frenzy when Sulu dished out his popular tune Sean Timba — widely known as Batai Munhu. Dendera fans who spoke to Southern Eye Lifestyle, said they were happy and looking forward to similar shows from the country’s different musicians.

“We are happy and did not expect such a crowd because of the recently-held elections and also the fact that Alick Macheso was in town last night,” Sulu’s manager Joe Nyamungoma said.

“We feel that we should have started the Simon Chimbetu commemorations way before because the fans loved the idea and we feel honoured to be honouring the life of a great musician and father,” he said.
