The show, which kicked off at 9:30pm, saw local jazz sensation Jeys Marabini set the mood as he belted some of his songs and his energetic dance routines got fans up on their feet.

Marabini was happy with the turnout and the support he received.

“It is a nice thing to be supported by your people. It was a good show getting to share the stage with legendary superstar Tuku,” Marabini said.

Mtukudzi’s entrance on stage — clad in his traditional black and white outfit and a head gear — was greeted by wild screams and cheers from fans.

Tuku, as the superstar is affectionately known, played his hit songs such as Hossana and Tozeza Baba.

Tuku proved he is still a force to reckon as his two-hour performance was full of energetic dances.

Chimbetu later joined Tuku on stage as he showed his ability to play drums.

Sulu belted out his hit songs, Zvimwe Zvinhu Zvinopedza Power and the crowd’s favourite Sean Timba, popularly known as Batai Munhu.

He also performed his late father Simon Chimbetu’s yesteryear hits such as One Way.

Joe Nyamungoma, Sulu’s manager, described the show as a success.

“Tuku is the father of Zimbabwean music who has been doing his best to lift the Zimbabwean music industry up together with other artistes and sharing the stage with him has been an honour,” Nyamungoma said.

The show was a countdown to the Mtukudzi tribute to be held in Harare next week which will feature performances from Sulu and rappers Tehn Diamond and Jnr Brown.
