The show, organised by the Zimbabwe Clothing Manufacturers Association (ZCMA) ran under the theme “Made in Zimbabwe”.
The colourful event saw young designers from the Bulawayo Polytechnic stealing the show with Danai Pawandiwa walking home $1 000 rich for the best young designer.
Pawandiwa shrugged off fierce competition from students from Speciss College and Chinhoyi University, among other institutions.
“I am happy to have been recognised, it means so much to me and this gives me the zeal to go on,” she said.
She showcased eye-catching designs which included swimsuits under the brand name Danai Clothing.
The night also saw established designers showcasing their works. These included Blinq and manufacturing companies including Edgars, among others.

One of the notable presentations was by Nkululeko Ncube of Rebellious Klothing.
Ncube, debuting his designs, labelled them as rebelling against all normal odds.
“The brand is for individuals that are daring and have the ability to wear the craziest unimaginable outfits in everyday situations and gives an opportunity for creative minds to embrace their individuality,” Ncube said.
The designer added that people should expect amazing, insane street fashion with a bit of elegance.
Thandiwe Chingonzo, the secretary of ZCMA, was happy with the turnout and the participations.
“We want to deal with the misconceptions about the industry’s ability to supply and attract domestic and international investments,” Chingonzo said.
