UCCSA, which is celebrating its anniversary under the theme “The Lord has taken us this far” and the church’s regional secretary reverend Mlayo Sikhosana said the Mpilo donation was just one of several activities lined up.

“It is a call from God to reach out to the needy people in the society,” he said.

“As a church, we took into account that we live in a wider society that has different needs, so we thought of celebrating our anniversary with the Mpilo family and as a result we have donated 150 blankets to the hospital” Wedu Ndebele, the clinical director of Mpilo Hospital, expressed his gratitude towards the donation.

“We are happy and very much appreciate what UCCSA has done for us today,” he said.

“May they find happiness in helping us by any means when they can.”

Ndebele said the greatest challenge besetting Mpilo was the need for material resources, infrastructure repairs and surgical sundries. He appealed to other well-wishers in the city and elsewhere to support Mpilo so that it could become a centre of health excellency like it was before.

“Mpilo is going up. With the help of the community, the development of the hospital is becoming a reality,” Lawrence Mantiziba, chief executive officer of Mpilo Hospital, said.

Mantiziba promised the UCCSA that Mpilo was going to look after the blankets and ensure they are always in good condition. Sikhosana assured Mpilo that his church was going to assist whenever it could.
