A MAN from Thoporo village in Beitbridge has been taken to court for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl whom he threatened with unspecified action if she reported the incident.

Joeman Moyo pleaded not guilty to a rape charge when he appeared before Beitbridge magistrate Innocent Bepura on Friday, but he was remanded in custody to December 2 for continuation of his trial.
Moyo was also advised to apply to the High Court for bail.
It is the State case that sometime in February this year, Moyo allegedly raped the 12-year old girl who cannot be named to protect her identity.
He allegedly repeated the offence sometime in June when he met the girl at a homestead farm in the district.
He then allegedly threatened the girl with an unspecified act if she told anyone, but she confided in some relatives who then made a report to the police leading to Moyo’s arrest.
