THE Zimbabwe Football Association has lined up three international friendly matches to prepare the Warriors ahead of the African Nations Championships (Chan) finals to be staged in South Africa early next year.

The tournament, viewed as developmental and reserved for locally-based players, will kick off on January 11 and run until February 1.

Zifa chief executive officer Jonathan Mashingaidze said they were organising preparatory matches against Egypt, Mozambique and Gabon.

“We intend to play Egypt at the end of this month, then Mozambique in early January. Gabon has said they want to play us in early January. We are still finalising the details. This is in preparation for Chan and other future qualifiers and tournaments,” Mashingaidze said yesterday.

The Warriors were last month drawn in Group B for the Chan finals where they will face off with Morocco, Burkina Faso and Uganda.

The warriors qualified for the third successive tournament after beating Zambia 1-0 on aggregate in the final qualifier last month.

Should the friendly matches materialise, it would afford Warriors coach Ian Gorowa and his technical team a chance to assess the team ahead of the tournament.
