Bulawayo police deputy spokesperson, assistant inspector Mandlenkosi Moyo told Southern Eye yesterday that there would be a heavy police deployment to deter violence.

Assistant Inspector Moyo added that police will mount roadblocks on roads leading to BF to confiscate beers, weapons or any kind of objects that can be used as weapons from soccer fans.

“We warn strongly against those who want to engage in violence. We will not tolerate even the smallest kind of trouble or violence. We urge fans to behave themselves and to follow the police directives,” Moyo said in a telephone interview.

“We have made adequate deployment looking at the magnitude of the match. We will also have checkpoints on major roads leading to BF where we will be searching vehicles for beers or any objects that can be used as weapons during or after the match.”

Dynamos enter the match with a psychological advantage of having not lost to Highlanders since 2006 in a league match.

But pundits say history favours Highlanders — seven years ago the Bulawayo giants topped the log standings after 25 matches like today and went on to win the championship. However, Highlanders go into today’s game second on the log table. Harare City beat army side Buffaloes yesterday in the capital and are top at 48 points.
