ZRP Raiders, University of Zimbabwe and Support Unit will represent the country in the women’s category while Black Rhinos, Stanbic Thunder and Support Unit will be the men’s teams set to fight it out in the competition.

“We are hoping that this time Zimbabwe teams will emulate the Jewels men’s team. They were the last Zimbabwean team to win the Zone V1 Club Championships when we hosted them in 2002.

“We are expecting to get a good performance from all the teams in this year’s competition and we hope another team from Zimbabwe will win the title,” he said.

Support Unit and Stanbic Thunder are having another shot this year as they also made it to last year’s competition held in Zambia while Railstars will not be in this year’s competition.

Panthers and Highlanders took part in the women’s competition in Zambia last year.

ZRP Raiders (women) and Support Unit (men) automatically qualified after winning last year’s national league while Black Rhinos (men) and University of Zimbabwe (women) got the second slots for the Zone V1 Club Championships after winning the Zimbabwe Open tournament earlier this year.

Stanbic Thunder (men) and Support Unit (women) got the third slots to travel to Swaziland after coming first in the national play-offs that were held in Harare in September.

Zambia, Namibia, South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho, Mozambique, Malawi and the hosts have been the countries usually taking part in the games.

The local teams will cater for the expenses to travel to the games.
