Speaking to Southern Eye on Tuesday, some Midsec security guards accused the company of deliberately impoverishing them saying they last received their full salaries in May 2011.

Since then, they alleged that they were being given $50 or $100 per month.

They claimed to have raised their plight with the Bulawayo branch manager Charles Gweru, but said he had been giving them unending excuses.

They said Gweru is also responsible for collecting money from the company’s clients and dispatches it to their headquarters in Harare.

“They do not want to pay us for no apparent reasons. Clients are paying very well. We don’t know whether Gweru is embezzling our money or not,” one of the guards said.

“We have tried highlighting our case, but without any success. Why is he sticking around yet we are not getting our salaries? We need to know whether the managing director William Edward knows about this non-payment or not,” the guard said.

“Our children have dropped out of school. Others have failed to write ‘O’ Level examinations. Truly speaking, Edward, Gweru and Enock Mpofu (finance manager) are heartless.

“We are failing to pay rentals yet we work like slaves. Even our marriages are on the brink of breaking up as our wives are accusing us of lying about not being paid yet we go to work every day.”

Gweru declined to comment when Southern Eye contacted him and referred all questions to Midsec operations manager Frank Herington, who also refused to be drawn into the issue.

“I can’t comment on this,” Herington said.

“I am sorry. Can you talk to Gweru the branch manager?” he said before hanging up his phone.
