Charles Manyuchi is expected to leave the country this week for Zambia, preparing for WBC welterweight belt fight against Ghana’s Patrick Allotey

ZIMBABWE welterweight and Africa Boxing Union (ABU) welterweight champion Charles Manyuchi is expected to leave the country this week for Zambia as he prepares for the World Boxing Council welterweight (silver) belt fight against Ghana’s Patrick Allotey set for early next year . Manyuchi won the ABU welterweight title in June after knocking out Burkina Faso champion Patrice Sou Toke to claim the continental title in the fifth round of the 12-round bout.

The Masvingo-based boxer successfully defended his ABU welterweight title against Ghana’s Isaac Sowah in Lusaka on September 28 and has set the World Boxing Council belt as his next target.

Manyuchi yesterday told Southern Eye Sport of his plans for his next fight.

“I am leaving for Zambia this week to prepare for my fight against Allotey. He is a Ghanaian boxer based in the United Kingdom. I will fight him on January 26 at Zambia Government Complex in Zambia. I am going there early so that I go into camp now. I will not have a Christmas break because I need to prepare for the fight,” he said.

Manyuchi said he was taking the preparations seriously because he had targets he wanted to achieve.

“My aim is to win the silver belt and then I will go for the senior belt,” he said.

He is managed by Edison Zvobgo (Jr) and is also contracted to Zambia-based Oriental Quarries Boxing Promotions.

Manyuchi has won 12 fights —winning six of the fights on knockouts, losing twice and drawing once.

He has a tough challenge ahead as Allotey has fought 29 times winning 23 of the bouts on knockout and has not lost, according to boxing website boxrec.com.
