Highlanders dominate Mbada individual awards

HIGHLANDERS dominated the 2013 Mbada Diamonds Cup tournament individual awards after picking up the piece of silverware when they beat How Mine 3-0 in an exciting final at Barbourfields Stadium on Saturday.

Goalkeeper Munyaradzi Diya emerged the richest in the competition after he was rewarded with $1 500 for becoming the player of the tournament and $1 000 for grabbing the goalkeeper of the tournament.

Youthful striker Gabriel Nyoni grabbed the fastest goal of the tournament and is $500 richer for the goal scored in the second minute to thrust Bosso in the lead when they beat Triangle 3-2 in the first round of the competition.

$1 000 was split among five top goalscorers who had two goals each and that included Highlanders’ Njabulo “Tshiki” Ncube, Masimba Mambare and Nyoni.

Harare City’s Silas Songani and Caps United’s Tawanda Nyamandwe were also recipients and each of the players got $200 each.

Bosso also grabbed the most disciplined team of the tournament and for that they received $1 000 on top of the $130 000 prize money for winning the cup.

How Mine received $90 000 for becoming the losing finalists and will receive $110 000 subsidy for taking part in next year’s Caf Confederation Cup.

Losing semi-finalists Harare City and Caps United will each get $45 000 each.

Dynamos, Chicken Inn, Hwange and Buffaloes each pocket $30 000 for losing in the quarter-finals.

FC Platinum, Shabanie Mine, Triangle, Black Rhinos and the relegated Motor Action, Black Mambas, Monomotapa and Tripple received $15 000 each for going out in the first round.

Each player received $100 appearance fee for every match they participated in while seven members of the technical team were each entitled to $150 for every match.

The Mbada Diamonds Cup package included 30 tracksuits, 30 warm-up T-shirts and sets of playing kit for each participating team.
