Heath Streak Consultancy and Sports Development director Joseph Rego confirmed the latest development.

“The coaching course has been postponed to Monday because there is a prearranged function taking place at McDonalds on Saturday, so we trying to avoid the clash between these two events.

“We, however, urge all interested individuals to come for enrolment on Saturday. Although preference will be given to those who are already into the sport, the exercise is open to everyone interested,” Rego said.

In a Press statement, Rego said the former Zimbabwean national cricketer Gavin Ewing will take charge of the coaching clinic.

“Former Zimbabwean national cricketer Gavin Ewing who has been appointed head coach, will head a level two and three coaching team with a lot of coaching experience in John Nyumbu and Godwin Mamhiyo who would impart professional cricket training to young cricketers, who will be in the next three to five years cricket stars of note,” the statement read.

The academy, the brainchild of former Zimbabwe national team cricket player Heath Streak, aims at promoting cricket from grassroots level.

McDonald Bricks, Davis Granite, SPAR, Colbro Transport, Dulux Paints in Zimbabwe, Fence Africa, National Fencing and Tregers, among other companies, are supporting the initiative.

Rego introduced new board members Elifasi Mashaba and Raj Modi, renowned Bulawayo entrepreneurs who promised to work tirelessly to make sure the academy would achieve its objectives of producing world-class cricketers out of the young stars.

Rego also revealed that the academy’s facilities are expected to be ready for use by the end of January.
