BELFAST — CIYMS last night confirmed the signing of Nathan Waller, the tall Zimbabwean fast bowler who becomes eligible for Ireland in January.
The 22-year-old, who had spent the last two summers with Lisburn, is CI’s second major capture of the winter, following the recruitment of South African professional Rassie Van Der Dussen.
Waller cut ties with Zimbabwe earlier this year in pursuit of a career with Ireland and possibly the English county scene.
A CI spokesman said: “We are delighted that Nathan has decided to join us. Hopefully he will have a good season at Belmont and with the Northern Knights and push for full international honours.
“We see Nathan as a strong replacement for Taimur Khan in terms of both the playing side and working with our pace bowlers. We would thank Steven Hirst at Cricx for his help in completing the signing.”
A spokesman for Lisburn wished Waller all the best in his move to Belmont.
“We part on good terms with Nathan. We had spoken to him about returning to the club, but he has county second eleven commitments in 2014 and that meant he would be unable to do the coaching that we would have required.”
