ABOUT 30 residents associations from around Zimbabwe are set to converge in Bulawayo, today and tomorrow for a summit to map out an agenda of action for residents’ associations in the country.

The summit is being hosted by the Bulawayo Progressive Residents’ Association (BPRA).
“The summit is aimed at synchronising and co-ordinating the activities of residents’ associations countrywide for improved advocacy and results in the quest to improve the livelihoods of Zimbabweans,” BPRA advocacy and programmes manager Emmanuel Ndlovu said.
He said as part of the summit, delegates from across the country would tour residential areas in Bulawayo in order to familiarise themselves with the service delivery challenges besetting residents.
Present at the meeting would be local government stakeholders, Bulawayo mayor Martin Moyo, members of the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Local Government and a representative from the Local Government ministry.
Ndlovu said the meeting will focus on various areas that include an analysis of the political, social and economic environment in Zimbabwe, in line with residents’ challenges.
He said the summit would facilitate knowledge transfer and sharing of best practices, enabling residents’ associations countrywide to maximise on their strengths and opportunities and find means to address their weaknesses and challenges.

“Holding of the summit follows recognition by the associations of the corresponding need for collaboration among residents’ associations in order to enhance the requisite capacities to accelerate their collective impact in society,” Ndlovu added.
