Auditions for the film were held yesterday with charming Percy Soko who played the role of a womanising businessman in Tshuz’ Mazikhethela clinching a lead-role alongside sassy television host Nyasha Mtamangira, affectionately known as “Diva” in the showbiz industry.

Although the title Fool’s Paradise is not new in entertainment circles as it is synonymous with one of America’s romantic comedy screened in the 19th century, the Inhlanhla film-maker Tazvivinga was quick to dispel speculation that her new production could be a rendition of the American film — Fool’s Paradise.

“We debated about that and resolved to use the title,” the outspoken filmmaker told Southern Eye Lifestyle on the sidelines of the auditions held at Fingers yesterday.

“Titles are the same yes, but there is nothing similar in the films. Ours is totally different,” she quipped.

Tazvivinga — the script writer said the film was a romantic drama that explores the conflict between African culture and modernity.

She said the film touches on issues that are regarded by circular society, especially the conservative Zimbabwean society, as taboo.

“The film explores the conflict between African customs and modernity. It touches on issues that are controversial, but realistic,” she said.

“As the script writer, I believe that the film is going to take a turn from the general conservative films that local filmmakers have been producing in the past.”

Although filmmaking is generally not a competitive business in the local arts industry, the innovative filmmaker believes that her new production is going to be a hit and go platinum in sales.

The film is directed by Tazvivinga in collaboration with accomplished film director Ramsey Kasawaya.
