A MAN employed by the Mining Industry Pension Fund (MIPF) to handle its finances was on Wednesday taken to court to answer a charge of theft of more than $24 000.

Lovemore Nkomo (41) of Cowdray Park in Bulawayo was not asked to plead to theft when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Gladmore Mushove on Wednesday and was granted $300 bail and remanded to January 21.
Nkomo was ordered to report once a week at Luveve Police Station.
He was told not to interfere with State witnesses and to reside at his given address until the case is finalised.
The court heard that between January 2012 and September 2013, Nkomo received money from two mining companies for workers’ pensions, but converted it to his own use.
The total amount he allegedly swindled MIPF was $24 410,77. Nothing was recovered.
