The evening concert to be held February 8 is dubbed “Jeys Marabini Acoustic”and features Austria-based producer Dumisani Ramadu Moyo, talented lead guitarist Mthabisi Moyo and sensational percussionist Mangoma Moyo.

Organisers of the show – 10th District founded by Dumisani Ramadu Moyo director of Austria-based Insingizi — told Southern Eye Lifestyle that the fiesta would see Jeys performing an acoustic set which is different from his traditional set comprising a full band including dancers.

“Jeys is a man of the people whose music appeals to everyone, but we want to attract a new audience by bringing in a different approach to his set,” Tswarelo Motobethe organiser of the concert, said.

“In this concert Jeys will perform without his full band including dancers because we want the performance to be classical — creating a sombre atmosphere so that we divert from the usually high-powered performance characterised by loud drums.”

The purpose of the concert, Motobe said, was to target more people reach out to a new market, so as to expand the fan base of Jeys, who commands a large following in the local showbiz industry.

Motobe also confided to Southern Eye Lifestyle that they had partnered with Indaba Book Café because the place was more relaxed compared to sports bars where revellers tend to be more concerned with sipping beer than listening to music, adding the place was unique, attracting people of different backgrounds who might seriously be following Jeys’ music.

The much-travelled musician is expected to play tracks his latest album – Isilo which was launched at Roots Music from South Africa, last year — a carnival also organised by 10th District.

Jeys Marabini confirmed that he will perform at the show and reiterated the organisers’ words.

“This will be a special show,” he said.

“This will be a new approach to our performance which is going to take us closer to our more loyal fans.

“We want to target people who are more serious in following music than rowdy revellers in sports bars who will be shouting or sipping beer while we are performing.

“This is an innovative project which is going to give us mileage in the music industry,” he added.
