This emerged when Nkosana Dube (27) appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Abednico Ndebele yesterday facing a murder charge.

Dube was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody to February 10. He was also advised to apply to the High Court for bail. When Ndebele asked Dube why he killed his girlfriend, he responded: “I do not know who killed her and I deny the charge.”

“Who killed her then?” Ndebele further probed.

“I do not know,” Dube replied.

“But your hat was found at the scene of the murder,” Ndebele said.

“I do not have such a hat. I don’t know it,” answered Dube.

When asked if he had any complaints about the police who arrested him, Dube said they assaulted him under his feet and he had difficulties walking. Ndebele recommended that Dube be examined and treated by a doctor before his trial starts.

Prosecutor Caroline Matanga told the court that between January 19 and 22 this year, Dube murdered his girlfriend Brenda Proud Zulu (27) using an unknown object. Matanga said Dube tied up Zulu’s body and dumped it close to the Nyamandlovu Police Station.
