Provincial political head and Transport minister Obert Mpofu was chosen to chair the committee that consists of Speaker of Parliament Jacob Mudenda, Provincial Affairs minister Cain Mathema, Media, Information and Broadcasting services minister Jonathan Moyo, former provincial governor Thokozile Mathuthu and Small and Medium Enterprises minister Sithembiso Nyoni, among others.

The committee is charged with raising funds for holding the workshop as well as identifying a suitable venue.

Briefing party members on the workshop at a provincial co-ordinating committee meeting in Lupane on Saturday, Mpofu said it would not be less than two days and an appropriate venue was required.

“We would need a venue suitable for the workshop,” Mpofu said. “The only closest venues would be in Bulawayo or Hwange because there is none here in Lupane.

“Maybe if the (Lupane State) University was open, we would ask to use the facility, but it is not.”

Mudenda said the committee was an ad hoc one and would report to the provincial executive on the things they would have done so that they get authority to move ahead.

Meanwhile, the provincial youth wing is set to hold a fundraising dinner to raise money for President Robert Mugabe’s 90th birthday bash.

Provincial youth chairperson Tamuka Nyoni told the meeting that the youth league had adopted a different approach from previous years.

“The fundraising has been changed because in recent years people would just write letters asking for donations and the system was prone to abuse,” he said. This year we were asked to identify one person who would co-ordinate the business sector and host a fundraising dinner.

“We have since identified Khanhondo Safaris (owned by Mpofu) to facilitate the fundraising dinner, but it is still at discussion stage. We appeal to the elders to assist us so that there is some weight in our request.”

Nyoni said party youths from Tsholotsho would travel to celebrate Mugabe’s birthday this year.
