The belated birthday bash with a difference was held at Amakhosi Cultural Centre in the afternoon and was attended by children drawn from SOS, Khayelihle and Emthunzini Wethemba children’s homes.
The Malaika hit-maker said she decided to invite children because most of them had never seen her perform.
“I chose children from various homes dotted around the city to come and celebrate with me because I am sure most of them have never seen me perform and also because I have a lot of affection for kids,” Ndebele said.
The former Mpopoma High School student, who is also one of the pioneers of Iyasa, was born on January 3.
Amakhosi was packed. In addition to performances by Ndebele, the children were treated to face paintings, dancing competitions and poetry.
The musician also donated clothes to the children from the different homes that were part of the celebration. Iyasa and Sound Culture were some of the groups that shared the stage with Ndebele.
