An impeccable source in Hwange yesterday told Southern Eye Sport that Chipeta returned to South Africa immediately after he arrived with the Warriors from the African Nations Championships (Chan) on Monday and is at AmaTuks to seal a move to the Absa Premier Soccer League side.

“Chipeta is not in Hwange. He actually went back to South Africa and is at University of Pretoria who have shown interest in the player and most likely he is going to conclude a deal with the side. He did not come to Hwange after he arrived with the national team from Harare, but went back to South Africa,” the source said.

Chipeta has a running contract with the coal-miners that ends this December and his move could be of huge benefit to the cash-strapped Chipangano, who survived relegation by a whisker last year.

Hwange’s spokesperson Burzil Dube was, however, not immediately available for comment yesterday on Chipeta’s move intended. AmaTuks are also reportedly targeting Chicken Inn midfielder Danny “Deco” Phiri, who has also caught the eye of Jomo Cosmos and Polokwane City, but is staying at the GameCocks for another season.

Chipeta, who joined Hwange from Northern Region Division One side Dstv Rangers, has also been on the radar of several local clubs that included league champions Dynamos, Highlanders and FC Platinum.

The Chan tournament could have opened doors for a number of local players with How Mine striker Simba Sithole already at Ajax Cape Town while Kudakwashe Mahachi has been targeted by Mamelodi Sundowns and Monaco of France.

Highlanders’ Peter “Rio” Moyo has been courted by Division One sides Milano and Chippa United in South Africa.

AmaTuks are home to Zimbabweans Washington Arubi and nomadic former Highlanders striker Obadiah Tarumbwa.
