Moyo told Southern Eye Lifestyle in an interview that he wants to lay a foundation for stand-up comedy.

“We are starting up these clubs in a move to groom young talent as well as a way of providing these youngsters with an employment option,” Moyo said.

“We got clearance to conduct these during the weekend and we are in the process of engaging the schools to map the programme.

“Students will compete and we will have finalists perform in a big show with the seasoned guys. This way the students will gain exposure and confidence in their art,” Moyo added.

The comedian revealed that they have identified 20 prospective schools.

“We are yet to see the schools’ calendars so that we pick which weekends to use hopefully the end of this month all will be running in terms of auditioning the students,” he said.

“I see this initiative creating a base for stand-up comedy and growing the fan-base as well as making sure it’s understood from the grassroots and even better still being included as an official schools extra activity like public speaking and athletics,”

“Parents should support their children who want to take up stand-up comedy because it can take them to greater heights,” Moyo said.

Moyo who is the founder of Bulawayo’s first comedy club —Umahlekhisa Comedy Club — has been nominated for a Nama for the second time in a row.
