Highlanders and Harare City have the opportunity to gauge themselves ahead of the new season month as they face off in the semi-final of the Bob90 Super Cup

BULAWAYO giants Highlanders and Harare City have the opportunity to gauge themselves ahead of the start of the new season next month as they face off in the semi-final of the Bob90 Super Cup at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday.

Both clubs have been busy in the market to beef up their squads in a bid to mount a serious challenge on the 2014 championship.

Highlanders have swooped on former FC Platinum trio of Charles Sibanda, Joel Ngodzo and Welcome Ndiweni. They now also have on their books Valentine Ndaba (Shabanie), Khumbulani Banda (How Mine) and goalkeeper Njabulo Nyoni from Chicken Inn. Bosso are also reported to be still chasing Zimbabwe international defender Felix Chindungwe.

Harare City on the other hand, have signed Hwange striker Francesco Zekumbawira who had been loaned to champions Dynamos. Former Caps United defender Arnold Chivheya has also been signed by the City Fathers.

Former Tripple B midfielder Timire Mamvura, Misheck Mburayi (Triangle), and Mhleli Sibanda from FC Platinum are now also on their books.

City, have also pounced on Benson Maglas who was at Caps United last season and former Monomotapa striker Agrippa Murimba. Coach Bigboy Mawiwi has also plucked striker Takudzwa Chimwemwe from the obscurity of Division One football.

Mawiwi and his Highlanders counter-part Kevin Kaindu have the opportunity to size each other up on Sunday before the explosion of the 2014 campaign next month.

Charles Mabika, who is organising the Bob90 Super Cup said yesterday — southern region soccer legends will be the curtain raisers of the match.

“We will have a fundraising dinner in Harare on Wednesday (tomorrow). The semi-final of the Bob90 Super Cup will be played at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday. Soccer legends from the southern region will be the main curtain raisers of the match,” said Mabika.

Dynamos were given a bye and will wait to face the winner between Highlanders and Harare City in the final. The final has been set for February 23.
