Matabeleland North provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Siphiwe Makonese confirmed that Thomas Sibanda had died at his homestead at around 7:20am.

“Sibanda joined some villagers who were digging (his deceased brother) Mokeli Nkulumo’s grave.

“He entered the pit and started digging, but suddenly stopped and leaned against the wall of the grave.

“Some villagers took him out of the grave but he died before he could be taken to hospital,” she said.

Makonese said a report was made to police who attended the scene and took Sibanda’s body to a Bulawayo hospital for a post mortem.
