Macheke-based Monte Cassino Girls High School topped the list in passes with a 100% pass rate.

Education minister Lazarus Dokora told journalists in Harare that the results indicated a 2,32% improvement from last year’s results.

“The overall pass rate for November 2013 is 20,72%,” he said.

“This figure accounts for more than five credits. In 2012, the overall pass rate was 18,4%. As can be observed, the pass rate increased by 2,32%.”

Dokora said the percentage rate excludes the June 2013 examination results.

The total number of candidates who entered for “O” Level in 2013 was 285 260 against the 268 854 registered in 2012.

Other schools in the top 10 list were Anderson Secondary School in Gweru (97,71%), John Tallach Secondary School in Matabeleland North (96,15%), Nyanga High (96%), Zimbabwe Republic Police School in Harare (95,58%), St Ignatius College in Chishawasha (95,95%), Nyazura Adventist High (94,63%), Regina Mundi Secondary School in Gweru (93,75%), St Dominics Chishawasha Secondary School (93,26%) and Kriste Mambo Secondary School in Rusape (92,31%).

Zimsec director Esau Nhandara said candidates could collect their results from their centres starting today.

Dokora said results of 680 candidates were embargoed to pave way for investigations into an alleged examination paper leak by the Manunure teacher.

“Following the case of the Manunure teacher who was involved in the alleged leak of Geography and Integrated Science question papers, the results of up to 680 candidates from some secondary school centres were embargoed to allow for further investigations to take place,” he said.

The centres are Marathon Academy, Mbizo, Manunure, Amaveni, Globe and Pheonix, Kwekwe, Mambo, Zesa Munyati and Chituripasi. Nhandara said the best top 10 subjects passed are Religious Studies being first followed by Ndebele.

History is third, Principles of Accounts fourth, Commerce fifth, Literature in English sixth, Shona seventh, English Language eighth, Mathematics calculator version ninth and Geography being 10th.
