Club chairman Losson Mtongwiza confirmed that the club will hold the invitational tournament on March 29 in Harare.

“We have invited two Zambian clubs, the Lusaka Rugby Club and Diggers. We want to have the tournament on 29 March. It will be a 12-team tournament,” he said.

Mtongwiza said they were also expecting local teams to participate and were in the process of sending invitations to all the teams in the country.

The National Rugby League has eight teams in the league, Old Hararians, Old Miltonians, Old Georgians, Gweru Sports Club, Western Panthers, Zvishavane Bulls and Matabeleland Warriors.

“The tournament is meant to give the 15-aside teams a chance to fine tune their players for the league. We have invited all teams in the premier league and we will be inviting police teams as well,” he said.

The police teams play in the B Division of the league.

Mtongwiza said they have started their preparations for their title defence this season.

“The players are training hard to defend the title this year. We hope we will do better than we did last season. At the moment we do not have any new players and those that were there last year are doing well in training,” he said.
