The cop, Constable Tatenda Mavhunda, was on Wednesday escorted to Fairbridge for detention as punishment for improperly performing his duties after facilitating the clearance of cattle for sale by Anele Ncube.

Mavhunda cleared the beasts despite Ncube not possessing a stock card and a brand mark certificate proving ownership of the cattle.

Ncube was arrested for stock theft and appeared in court, but has since skipped bail and has gone on the run.

It was alleged that Mavhunda took along a junior cop to clear the cattle as belonging to Ncube with Edward Tlou being the buyer.

Sources said the three, Ncube, Tlou and Mavhunda had intended to sell the beasts and share the proceeds before they were busted.

The two beasts were recovered.

Initially, stock theft charges had been preferred against Mavhunda before they were dropped due to lack of evidence.
