A former security guard with Moya Security Company, Milton Ncube, is facing accusations of stealing a firearm at Mpofu’s Burnside residence in Bulawayo in 2011.

Moya Security Company officers led by Nkosizile Mkhwananzi, Cleotos Dube and Mgcini Sibanda have for the past two weeks been tailing Ncube and demanding that he surrenders the stolen shotgun.

Ncube, who left Moya in September 2011, has denied stealing the firearm.

The missing shotgun was allegedly found in one of the kitchen drawers at Mpofu’s Burnside residence during renovations between June and September 2011.

Ncube told Southern Eye that he surrendered the gun to a company official he identified as Mrs Shumba shortly after it was found.

“I was a security officer then and when I was alerted about the discovery of the gun, I went to collect it and surrendered it to Mrs Shumba at York House,” said Ncube, adding that he was miffed by the daily nagging over the missing firearm.

One of the Moya Security Company’s officers who has been tailing Ncube over the gun saga confirmed that it was missing, but refused to comment any further.

“I do not want to talk about this. You can talk to him about this issue,” Mkhwananzi said.

Mpofu also refused to comment about the issue last week.

“I don’t know what you are talking about,” Mpofu said. He accused Southern Eye of targeting him before switching off his mobile phone.

Ncube’s friends, however, expressed concern for his safety saying the allegations came as a shocker as they came just weeks after a February 1 deadline set by the police to account for every gun in the city to minimise crime.

Police called on anyone with an unlicenced firearm to immediately surrender it to and those with expired licences to renew them.
