The Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships served off at the Dubai Tennis Stadium in Al Garhoud yesterday and run until March 1.

The ten-time doubles Grand Slam champion Black, and her Indian partner Sania Mirza will be hoping to capture their first women’s doubles title of the season which could be a befitting birthday present for the Zimbabwean Sports Person of the Year.

Black’s playing partner Mirza will be confident of doing well in Dubai after she won the event last year while partnering American Bethanie Mattek-Sands.

The Indo-Zimbabwean pair, who ended last season on a high after capturing back-to-back titles in China and Japan, are seeded fourth in Dubai.

They will open their campaign with a tie against the unseeded Czech Republic pair of Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Safarova in the first round today.

The women’s doubles champions at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships will walk away with $71,820 while the losing finalists will pocket $37,801 305.

Black and Mirza will be hoping to do better this week after losing in the quarterfinals of the Qatar Total in Doha on Friday.
