Bhasera was charged with culpable homicide after he was involved in a fatal road accident on January 20 last year along the Kwekwe-Nkayi road in which two passengers traveling in his car died instantly.

It is the State’s case that Bhasera caused the death of Thomas Mema and James Moyo when he lost control of his Isuzu KB 250 while carrying eight passengers. According to postmortem reports, the two died as a result of serious head injuries which they sustained after being thrown out of the moving vehicle.

“He was driving from Nkayi heading to Kwekwe and as he approached Club 007, he lost control of his vehicle which overturned and landed on the river bed. Passengers who were in the loading pan of the vehicle were thrown out,” reads part of the state outline.

Bhasera is being accused of driving above the 60km per hour speed limit on the stretch of the road when his vehicle rolled over as he tried to negotiate a narrow bridge.
