Mathembisa Mzamba (47) of Chikandakubi appeared before Victoria Falls resident magistrate Sharon Rosemani but pleaded not guilty to poaching.

Mzamba was remanded out of custody to March 3 for trial. Prosecutor Listen Nare stated that sometime in July 2011 at around 5am, Forestry Commission guards Sindiso Mlilo, Sikhosana Ndlovu and Maxwell Makwinye were on patrol when they came across five wire snares set at Chikandakubi area and a female kudu caught in one of the snares.

They laid an ambush at the area and at around 10:20am Mzamba came to the area and celebrated when he saw the kudu.

He removed the kudu from the snare and started dragging when the rangers arrested him. The kudu and copper wire used in the snares were worth $1 018.
