Philile Makombe (28) was not asked to plead when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Abednico Ndebele and was remanded to February 28.

The court heard that on July 31 2013 the Medical Control Authority of Zimbabwe (MCAZ) banned the sale of sexual performance enhancers. It was the State’s case that detectives from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Drugs and Narcotics unit received information that Makombe was dealing in unregistered drugs at his Maureen Court shop along Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo Street and 4th Avenue in the city.

They searched and discovered that Makombe was selling Tonique Sex Tea, a sex performance enhancer which is banned and not registered with the MCAZ.

The detectives recovered 12X40 gram packets of Tonique Sex Tea from the shop. Makombe was arrested after the dtetctives had established that he was not licenced to sell the product.

In a similar incident, Johnson Zvavahera (48) of Suaerstown in Bulawayo also appeared before Ndebele to answer to the same charges. The same detectives searched Zvavahera’s shop in the same flat and found three sachets of Via-Max Power sex coffee, 13X40 grams of Tonique Sex Tea and 4×40 grams of Hmorrhoid Tea.

He was arrested after it was established that he did not possess a dealing licence for selling the drugs.
