Busters, Old Miltonians (OMs), Panthers, Gweru, Shabanie, National University of Science and Technology, Masvingo and Bulldogs complete the eight teams that will compete.

Panthers are the defending champions of the tournament and Mukorera said they were prepared to retain the glory.

“As Western Panthers, we are now ready for the tournament. We are the defending champions, so we are looking forward to defending the title.

“The tournament is going to be used to select a team that will represent the region in the Spar Sevens International Rugby league to be hosted by Harare in March. We hope we are going to see those quality players during the tournament so that the region could have an impact in Harare,” Mukorera said.

Meanwhile, the National Secondary School Heads (Nash) Sevens tournament will also kick off on the same day and venue where Bulawayo secondary schools will lock horns. Entumbane, Milton, Ihlathi, Njube, Msitheli, Sobukhazi and Nkulumane are some of the teams that will take part in the tournament that will warm up the grounds before clubs start at 2:00pm.

Mukorera confirmed the schools tournament saying the aim was to come up with two provincial teams that will play in the national finals.

He said the team that will win the national finals will travel to Botswana for the Youth Rugby Sevens slated for May.
