Vheremu was injured in Kariba when the team was at the pre-season workout early this year with the injury seemingly a short-term setback.

But the club’s media liaison officer Chido Chizondo confirmed the worst possible news when she told this publication that their captain will be out for at least eight weeks.

“The medical team said he will be out for approximately two months and we expect him to be back at the end of April,” she said. “He is now wearing a plaster to enable a speedy recovery as advised by the medical team.”

Vheremu has been a colossal figure at the heart of the platinum miners defence since joining the club in 2011. He was walking on crutches during last Sunday’s CG Msipa Charity Shield final which Platinum won 2-0 against Chapungu.

But the latest setback is likely to cost him his place in the starting 11 as the central defence paring of new signing from Dynamos and soccer star of the year finalist Gift Bello and James Marufu has been solid at the back during pre-season preparatory matches.

Talented young defender Kelvin Moyo was also instrumental in defence last season and will be fighting to make it into the first team when the season starts, together with Zambian import Aaron Katebe.
