Masike would perform live on March 16 for what the organisers say is a relaxed show at Alliance Garden in Suburbs where she is expected to give the Bulawayo audience her renditions of some of her favourite French songs.

“With some great French songs executed with the natural flair of this multi-talented songstress, the concert will be one to watch. Bring your picnic chair, or a blanket and pillow and enjoy the atmosphere of beautiful Alliance Française Garden,” organisers of the show said in a statement to Southern Eye Lifestyle yesterday.

Each year, the world comes together to celebrate the diversity of the French language and culture through the Francophone Week.

Both Alliance Francaise de Bulawayo and de Harare will join the embassies of Algeria, Belgium, Canada, DRC, Egypt, France, Switzerland, Greece, Romania and the European Union Delegation as well as the French School in Harare in celebrating the Francophone week running from March 10 to 21.

Taking place in both Harare and Bulawayo, the festivities will include a diverse array of activities that all people can enjoy over the two weeks.

One of the major highlights is the Sing Your Way to Paris competition. Anyone between the ages of 14 to 26 is welcome to participate and get an opportunity to win an all-expenses paid trip to Paris for two weeks offered by the French Embassy.

This event is sponsored by Bon Marché. The auditions in Bulawayo will be on March 15 at 2pm at the Academy, registrations ending on March 8 at Alliance Francaise. The final will be in Harare on March 21.

Film enthusiasts will be treated to a film festival featuring the latest Francophone movies from March 10 to 21. With English subtitles, the films can be enjoyed by all.

The daily screening in the John Knight room of the Art Gallery in Bulawayo will enable the public to experience different parts of the Francophone world through cinema. Entrance is free.

The Francophone week promotes education in many ways. For a number of schools in Bulawayo, Alliance organises a spelling competition, open to all and quiz, only for school teams, to encourage young people to be more determined in learning French thus opening themselves to a whole new world.

This will be at the Bulawayo Theatre, on March 15 at 2pm, and the quiz at 3pm.
