After dropping out of the Caf Orange Champions League in the first round as usual, Dynamos returned home to the annual do of beating Highlanders and lifting the Bob 90 Super Cup at Rufaro Stadium yesterday.

SOME consolation!

That is exactly what they should have done against AS Vita of the Democratic Republic of Congo last week at the National Sports Stadium.

Ex-Highlanders player Masimba Mambare was back to haunt his former paymasters when he put Dynamos ahead after 33 minutes with a simple shot past Munyaradzi Diya following a howler by defender Felix Chindungwe.

Ronald Chitiyo cushioned Dynamos with a great goal, dipping his long-range effort over the badly positioned Highlanders keeper.

Dynamos collected a $45 000 cheque for successfully defending the cup while Highlanders got $25 000 for their troubles.

Highlanders started the match the better side and had two chances from a corner and a free-kick which were both wasted.

The home side’s first real chance arrived after 11 minutes when Mambare hit the side netting after a flowing move which involved Oscar Machapa and Clive Kawinga.

Mambare threatened again moments later with a dipping shot following a shot corner which was taken by Chitiyo.

The former Highlanders man then silenced the Bosso fans when he shot home after intercepting a square pass from Chindungwe.

Things almost got even better for Dynamos on 44th minute when Chitiyo released Kawinga with a clever over-the-top-pass, but the striker shot dreadfully wide as the Harare giants went to halftime leading.

Dynamos would soon be celebrating another goal after the resumption when Chitiyo met a long diagonal pass from Machapa. The former Monomotapa cut inside and with no one expecting him to aim at goal, released a dipping shot that beat Diya.

The Dynamos players ran to celebrate the super goal with their under-fire coach Kalisto Pasuwa, in what could be seen as a sign of solidarity with the players.

Walter Mukanga then shot wide from inside the box before substitute Farai Mupasiri was denied from point blank by Diya as Dynamos threatened to tear apart their opponents.

There were two talking moments just after the hour mark. First, Chitiyo was denied a brace when the second assistant referee correctly adjudged him to be on an offside position when he collected a pass before rounding off Diya to score.

At the other end, Bosso had a genuine call for a penalty when Erick Mudzingwa was impeded inside the box as he went for goal, but was not awarded.

Substitute Ozias Zibande’s speculative shot later in the match flew well wide to sum up Bosso’s horrible afternoon.
