INDIAN WELLS — Peng Shuai of China and Hsieh Su-wei of Chinese Taipei scored a 7-6 (5), 6-2 win over fifth seeds Sania Mirza of India and Cara Black of Zimbabwe to win the women’s doubles title at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells on Saturday.

The top seeded players, who improved their record in the women’s doubles finals to an 11-0 mark, took the tournament by storm. It was the pair’s second title this year, and their 11th together as a duo.

“I think we are not coming here for 11 record, whatever,” Hsieh said, “We just try for every match, try to win. So we didn’t think about the (record) or anything like that. When we get into the final we don’t think. We just try every point. This is the main key we win.”

Peng and Hsieh edged a tight opening set and survived by winning a tiebreaker, which provided momentum heading into the second set.

“First set we were down, when we started,” Peng said.

“It’s really windy and (ther’re also a) really good doubles team. Black has a lot of experience for the doubles and give us like a lot pressure.”

To win this event, the two rolled out to a 4-0 lead before losing two in the second set.

But they responded with a rally to win the final two game and avoid a third set.

“Well, we’re really happy for the result, but we didn’t think about it. Every time we just try to, like, fight every point, and then in the match we have to fight every point,” Peng said.

With their Doha win earlier this season, the two surpassed Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci to become the world No One doubles team.
