FC Platinum sent out a bold message ahead of the start of the 2014 Premier Soccer League season with a convincing 2-0 win over Highlanders in a friendly match played at Mandava Stadium yesterday.

Mukudzei Chingwere Sports Correspondent Second-half goals from Marshal Mudehwe and Nelson Maziwisa humbled the visitors.

Highlanders have cast their net wider in search of a goalscorer and assessing Zambian Jerry Simfukwe and Habbas Jim of Burundi, but both strikers failed to break the defence marshalled by FC Platinum’s new signing Gift Bello.

Wisdom Mutasa’s introduction for FC Platinum in the second half changed the complexion of the game with the young midfielder pulling the strings for the miners.

FC Platinum head coach Lloyd Mutasa was happy with his pre-season preparations.

“So far so good. Most of our players got game time in pre-preseason preparation and I think if the performance in pre-season matches is anything to go by then we will be a force to be reckoned with. My target though is surpassing last season’s performance,” he said.

Last season they finished in fourth position.

Highlanders coach Kelvin Kaindu said their preparations were not the best.

“It has always been difficult, we have not achieved so much. Most of our players are out injured and I would have loved to participate in the match so that when the season starts they will be match fit and they would have a good understanding amongst themselves,” he said.

Mthulisi Maphosa, Innocent Mapuranga, Gabriel Nyoni and Milton Ncube who picked up an injury yesterday are the major worries but Kaindu said the rest have minor injuries.

He said they would like to sign Habbas and Simfukwe for this season.
