The 65-seater worth $220 000 was handed over to the university on Saturday.

National University of Science and Technology vice-chancellor Lindela Ndlovu welcomed the government’s efforts to speed up the Matabeleland South higher education project.

“The government has already made funds available to us that we have used to refurbish and spruce up structures at the Epoch Mine site and this bus is testimony and concrete proof of the government’s commitment to this project,” Ndlovu said.

He said the structures included engineering workshops, science laboratories, office space and houses to accommodate both staff and students.

He said the structures should be ready for use in June this year.

“We would like to make an appeal to the government to spread some of its interventions, measures — resources allowing — towards reducing the cadetship outstandings,” he said.

Martha Muguti from the Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development ministry said the bus would facilitate the movement of students until the university is able to stand on its own.
