Lumuno Siansali of Chigani village under chief Siansali was convicted on his own plea of guilty to the charges when he appeared before Victoria Falls resident magistrate Sharon Rosemani yesterday.

Siansali was sentenced to 10 years, but two years were suspended for four years on condition he does not commit a similar offence.

Rosemani told Siansali that she considered that he was a family man and that no one was hurt during the stealing spree, but what aggravated the offence was the number of counts.

“I considered your mitigation that you are a family man with minor children and that no complainant was hurt during the offences, but what worsened the situation was the number of counts that you committed. This is something living in you which cannot be controlled,” Rosemani said.

“What you did is worse than the attack on the street because you were depriving people their place of security and you had become a threat to the community because you managed to do all this without being caught considering this is a small town. For that I find you fit to get in jail,” she said.

Siansali broke into 19 houses stealing household goods and other valuables such as cellphones, but his luck ran out on November 13 last year when he and his accomplice stole a Nokia 1202, Samsung galaxy pocket, police docket, clip board, bond paper and $9.

The following day he used the Samsung unbeknown to him that the owner had activated its mobile tracking system.

Siansali was tracked and found in Chinotimba while preparing to leave for Binga.

The overall value of stolen goods was $1 700 and only a few items were recovered at his homestead in Binga.
