Speaking to sister paper our NewsDay Sport in Murehwa, Sport, Arts and Culture minister Andrew Langa said the money would go a long way in the construction and refurbishment of venues to be used during the events.

“The donation of such funds into my ministry shows that the government is committed to hosting the youth games,” he said.

Langa said preparations were going on well and was confident they would meet the deadline to hand over the infrastructure to be used during the games.

Meanwhile, Senior Minister of State in the President’s Office, Simon Khaya Moyo, will today lead a team of ministers to tour some of the venues that will be hosting games like Luveve Stadium, White City Stadium, Hillside Teachers College and Barbourfields Stadium.

Zimbabwe will be hosting the competitions, formerly known as Zone V1 Under-20 Games, from December 4 to 15 in Bulawayo.

The government secured $34 million for the construction of three hostels at Nust which will accommodate 622 athletes each and will the help alleviate accommodation problems at the institutions after the games.

The Sport, Arts and Culture ministry said the budget had been set at $46 million with $36 million going towards infrastructure and $10 million for operational costs.

Bulawayo last had infrastructure refurbished before the All-Africa Games which were held in 1995.
