Mwembe Siachilalo (64) pleaded guilty to a domestic violence charge when he appeared before Binga resident magistrate Stephen Ndlovu and was convicted.

Prosecutor David Never Shiku told the court that on March 30, Siachilalo quarrelled with his wife Martha Mudimba (54) over beer after she had shared some with their neighbour Patson Musaka.

Siachilalo asked Mudimba why she was sharing the beer with Musaka and she told him that she had used their neigbour’s containers to brew the beer and sharing was just a token of appreciation.

This did not go down well with Siachilalo who armed himself with an axe and tried to strike his wife, but she dashed for cover and barricaded herself in their bedroom hut.

In a fit of rage, Siachilalo allegedly struck the door several times with the axe before he was restrained. When the magistrate asked Siachilalo what he would have done to his wife had he not been restrained after destroying the door with the axe, he seemed dumbfounded by the question and remained mum.
