NINE Nyamandlovu Vukasizwe Co-operative members in the Bhenzi area have filed an application at the Small Claims Court in Bulawayo against a city businessman for allegedly failing to pay them for feeding his 6 000 chickens.

One of the co-operative’s members, Danisa Nyathi, alleged that businessman Kim Drummond contracted them to keep and feed his 6 000 chicks. He promised to pay them 16 chickens for every 100 chickens they managed to raise.

“We kept the chickens which he later collected but never paid us anything,” Nyathi said. “When we ask him, he always tells us that he made a loss. We are taking this matter to court so that he pays us because we honoured our side of the deal. What we want is our dues.”

Nyathi said his co-operative was being supervised by the Chicken Raisers’ Association which commended it as having done well in raising Drummond’s chickens and they were surprised when he claimed that he had made a loss when he sold the birds. Contacted for comment, Drummond was evasive saying he was not aware of such a deal.

“I know nothing about that. They should have called me if they have any questions. Please advise them to call me,” he said.
