Bahebura Samweri (41) and Masumbuko Arex (18) both of the Bubanza area in Nzakira village under Chief Venas in Bujumbura, Rirare province, Burundi, were not asked to plead to the charges when they appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Sibongile Mspia and were further remanded in custody to April 23.

“Come back to this court on April 23. We are still trying to get a Swahili interpreter,” said Msipa.

The two Burundians have difficulties understanding English or any other local language.

The court heard that on April 3 this year, the two entered Zimbabwe and went to Mzilikazi Police Station where they were asked to produce travel documents, but failed and were arrested.

In their warned and cautioned statements, the two who are father and son, said they fled killings in their country.
