Never Chakanaka (65) of the African Apostolic Church reported a pastor Machingura of the Ambassador Apostolic Church to the Magwegwe Police community relations department in a bid to amicably resolve the issue after accusing the man of the cloth of taking away his wife Nora Majoko (56).

However, Chakanaka’s determination to get back his wife seems to have been met with untold embarrassment yesterday as she left with Machingura and his wife after the “peace” talks.

Chakanaka, Majoko and Machingura met at the Magwegwe Police Station yesterday for the talks at around 10am.

When Southern Eye arrived at the police station at the invitation of Chakanaka, the squabbling parties were all standing outside the community relations office awaiting their turn.

Chakanaka told Southern Eye that he had reported the pastor’s interference in his marriage to the police on April 3 and had been summoned for talks to settle the case.

“The pastor has taken my wife. I am a member of the African Apostolic Church, but my wife refuses to go with me to my church preferring to go to Machingura’s church,” he said.

“During the Easter holiday, my wife woke up early on Thursday morning and started packing her clothes saying she was going to a church camp in Shurugwi. She went to Shurugwi for four days without my consent.”

Chakanaka said ever since Machingura started interfering in his marriage, his life had become one of pain, anguish and continuous heartbreak.

“She became rude and disrespectful to me and always spoke glowingly about this pastor. One day the pastor came to my house when I was around and sat outside,” he said.

“My wife prepared food for him and he ate while sitting outside and I was not even informed of his presence.

“I only learnt about it when I heard them making an appointment to meet for prayers before he left.”

Chakanaka, who works as a driver, said his niece had told him about his wife’s escapades with the pastor while he was at work on several occasions.

He said he tolerated his wife’s behaviour considering that they have six grown up children together.

Machingura refused to talk to Southern Eye before the talks and promised to grant the publication an interview after deliberations with the cops.

“What do you want to talk with me? I cannot talk right now; maybe after this,” he said.

Majoko also refused to comment.

“What can I say? I am just an accused person,” she said.

However, after the talks involving the police, Machingura shrugged off requests for a comment.

Majoko and Machingura’s wife emerged from the police station together before the pastor joined them and they disappeared.

Chakanaka emerged visibly dejected.

“You see the pastor is going away with my wife. Now I am confused; what should I do?” he said.
